WITH
RACHEL

She came to the café after midnight, when exhaustion blurred thought and time. The air smelled of steamed milk and rain, as the barista lifted his eyes to greet her — he felt the shift in gravity when she entered. Her beauty wasn’t loud. It was quiet, magnetic, the kind that slowed conversation and made the lights dim around her.

She asked for an espresso. Her voice carried warmth, but beneath it was something ancient — the faint hum of a song too low for the human ear. When she wrapped her fingers around the cup, the barista felt his bones ache.

She came often. Always alone. Always kind. The baristas began to move differently after serving her — their hands quicker, their hearts restless, their sleep thinner. Each one swore the caffeine hit harder after she left.

GRAVEL Hi Rachel, looking forward to this shoot — how much time do you have?

Rachel Me too, maybe like an hour and a half, two hours.

G How did you get into modeling?

R I’ve been in awe of billboards since I was a kid; I knew one day I wanted to be on one. I had a casting call at 16 and ever since then I’ve poured my whole heart into it. I love seeing me in different perspectives whether it’s editorial, moody, sexy, etc.

G What do you like to do for fun?

R I love to cafe hop on my days off and explore different parts of the cities! I’m a huge shopper whether it’s spending money on (mainly) food, jewelry, clothes, or experiences. Shopping for my photoshoots is the ultimate fun day off!

G What are some things that make you unique? Life experiences? Personality traits? Physical attributes?

R I’m the first in my family to ever take this route in life, from a young age I had everyone telling me to get into modeling but didn’t think much of it. My family loves seeing me grow in my work and showing me off! I have a super bubbly personality that has been described as ultimate optimism. I always look for the good in things even if it’s bad. My red hair definitely makes me stand out as well, it’s pretty easy to spot me in a crowd.

G When you walk into a room for the first time, what are some things about you that you feel self confident / self conscious about?

R Depending on how much I dress up that day I always feel confident in my physical appearance and how I present myself. Even if I’m nervous, presenting myself in a positive light and manner is extremely important! I have anxiety issues that hold me back from certain goals in life but I try not to let it get the best of me.

G Where are some places you've traveled to that you've loved, and why? Where is somewhere you've always wanted to go, and why?

R
Hawaii or LA is at the top of my list. The people and environment is my ultimate goal of ideal living. I love warmth and being able to wear skirts without freezing in the Minnesotan snow! Somewhere I hope to visit soon is Thailand, I would love to experience a different country and see new places.

G
Are you a private person or more of an open book?

R I would say I’m an open book for the most part, certain aspects of my life are for me and me only but if you ask; I’ll answer!

G What character traits in a person make you feel the most comfortable or like you can be yourself?

R
Definitely matching my energy. I’m huge on energy and if you aren’t as excited about life as I am then I don’t want it!

G
What's one wild thing you've always wanted to try but haven't yet?

R Free diving with sharks! I’ve been cage diving 3 times and am eager to be in open water with them.

G If you were in charge of the world for a year, and could spend that year changing one thing, what would it be?

R Kindness. We need more love in the world. Whether it’s giving strangers compliments, uplifting your coworkers, or simply being more kind to yourself. We need more.

G What's the one thing that people get wrong when the approach you? What's the one thing that people get right?

R People tend to say I have an RBF but once I acknowledge them I have a big smile on my face and love them for being in my presence! Something people get right is that I tend to be a hot head in situations, whether it’s acting too quickly or being confrontational.

No one knew her name, only that her eyes shimmered like light on deep water. Those who saw her too often began to fade — not vanish, exactly, but blur at the edges.

THEY SAY She replaces her blood with caffeine. They say it keeps her youthful.
